The Gold Coast Chamber Ensemble plays a variety of styles of music. Traditionally, stringed instruments and recorders were played at banquets and celebrations as far back as the Middle Ages and Renaissance eras. Stringed instruments as we know them today were developed in the Baroque era, with composers such as Bach, Handel and Pachelbel composing for the newly developed instruments. The Classical era saw the string trio and flute and string quartets established as chamber music formats, with composers such as Haydn becoming known as the “father of the string quartet”. Mozart and Beethoven were to follow. The expressive music of the Romantic era came next with composers such as Schubert, Mendelssohn and Bizet. We also include arrangements of some of the most popular operatic arias of these times.
There has been a resurgence of interest in Celtic music in recent years and we enjoy playing these memorable tunes from Ireland and Scotland very much. We also feature the syncopated rhythms and blues harmonies of jazz standards from the likes of Gershwin, tangos from Argentina and well known hit melodies from popular music of the past few decades for your entertainment.
