A Symphony of Sound and Structure: GCCO Performs at Bond’s Abedian School

The Gold Coast Chamber Orchestra is thrilled to bring classical music into a breathtaking architectural space, performing two concerts at Bond University’s Abedian School of Architecture—famously known for its soaring cathedral-like interior designed by Sir Peter Cook and Gavin Robotham

Why This Venue Matters

Music cognition expert Professor Bill Thompson emphasizes the emotional impact of reverberant spaces:

“In a cathedral-like space with reflective surfaces and high ceilings… you’ll get reverberation that blurs and blends with the strings to create a richer, more complex—and aesthetically very pleasing—sound”

Violinist Margaret Blades agrees that the Abedian School’s acoustics enhance delicate pairings like the oboe and violin, and bring out the mathematical beauty in Bach’s compositions

Program Highlights

  • Chamber music featuring Bach concertos for violin and oboe, led by Margaret Blades and Tania Frazer

  • A special appearance by Vox Bond, Bond University’s newly formed choir, performing a masterpiece by Finnish composer Pekka Kostiainen
